BOLTdaptor Installation Instructions

Attention!

Ahem, sorry about that, but we just want to reiterate that you follow the instructions on this page to ensure your BOLTdaptors are correctly and safely installed. — failing to do so could lead to serious damage to your bike and/or being seriously injured.

Tools Needed

  • 4mm Hex (Allen) Wrench
  • 6mm Hex (Allen) Wrench
  • Bike stand (optional)
  • Thread locker blue (recommended)

Step by Step

  1. Clean the dropout area thoroughly.

  2. Work on one side of the bike at a time with the rear wheel and axle in place to facilitate mounting your BOLTdaptors.

  3. The dropout is secured by two M8 bolts with cone washers. One at a time, remove each M8 bolt and replace it with a BOLTdaptor. Using thread locker BLUE is recommended.

  4. Repeat steps 1-3 on the other side of the bike.

  5. Mount the rack to the upper eyelets of the bike frame using the hardware that came with your rack (finger tight).

  6. Mount the rack to each BOLTdaptor using the supplied M5 bolts and flat washers. You may need to spread the legs of your rack slightly, which should only require a little pressure — do not excessively force them apart!

  7. IMPORTANT! When satisfied with your rack alignment, tighten all the bolts to the manufacturer's recommended torque specs.
    • For the M8 bolts, this is usually in the ballpark of 25-30 NM.
    • For the M5 bolts, this is usually in the ballpark of 4-6 NM.
    • For the M5 hex nuts, good-n-tight should suffice.

Check Bolt Setback

To ensure bolts are safely engaged and will not interfere with your chain, they should be set back about 0.8mm (1/32") measured from the inner face of the dropout.
